Frequently Asked Questions

Visitor information

Where is the meeting point?

Our Discover Hamburg tour meets at 10:30 by the Memorial for the Fallen in both World Wars (Denkmal für die Gefallenen beider Weltkriege), which is next to the town hall (Rathaus). The address is Schleusenbrücke 1, 20354 Hamburg. If you’re stand in front of the big, beautiful town hall, simply look to the right you’ll see a grey column – that’s the memorial – your guide will be waiting in front of it wearing a blue name badge, and will also be carrying a bright blue umbrella.

How do I get there?

Reaching our meeting point is really easy! The nearest station is Rathaus on the U3 subway line, which is easily accessible from Hauptbahnhof (the main train station), as well as Landungsbrücken if you’re staying near the harbour.
You can also easily walk to the meeting point from Jungfernstieg station, which is on the S1, S2 and S3 lines as well as the U1, U2, and U4 subway lines. The Town Hall is only a 5 minute walk from here.

Where does the tour finish?

The Discover Hamburg tour finishes next to the Elbphilharmonic! There are plenty of cafés and restaurants nearby, as well as some of Hamburg’s most famous attractions, the Hamburg Dungeon, the Kaffeerösterei, and Miniatur Wunderland.

Should I tip my guide?

You can of course tip your guide, but you don’t have to. If you feel like your guide did a great job in showing you the city and making its history fascinating and entertaining then they would definitely welcome a token of your appreciation, but this is by no means a must.

Does the tour still run in the rain?

If you don’t like the weather in Hamburg then just wait 15 minutes! Our tours run all year ‘round, as the saying goes: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” However, if the weather is truly awful you can reschedule your tour. Please note that we don’t issue refunds for bad weather.

How do I reschedule my tour?

If you’re sick, late, lost, or just booked the wrong day then we should be able to help you out. Send an email to info@hamburgwalks.de or, if it’s really last minute, you can contact our emergency out of office phone on +49 1590 1845 128 via SMS, call, or WhatsApp.

When does the tour finish?

The Discover Hamburg tour is usually around 2-2.5 hours long. It’s not an exact science, so don’t make plans before 13:30, just in case.

Can I pay in cash?

Yes! We recommend booking online, but if you want to pay in cash at the meeting point that’s fine, too.

Is the tour available in Spanish, Danish, Italian, French, Schwizerdütsch etc.?

At the moment our tours are available in both English and German. If you would like to book a tour in another language you can get in touch and see if we can organise a private tour for you.
