About us

The idea to establish Original Hamburg Walks would originate with the company Original Berlin Walks, founded in 1993. At this time husband and wife Nick and Serena Gay started showing people the historical “Third Reich” sites in the then newly reunited German capital, Berlin. What started as fun side project for a pair of historians is now Berlin’s leading walking tour company. Running multiple tours every day for more than 100,000 guests per year Berlin Walks is easily your best choice to make your trip to Berlin a memorable one.

In 2018 Original Hamburg Walks was established as an extension of Original Berlin Walks in order to provide the same quality to its guests in Hamburg that it has already been providing in Berlin has for 25 years.

All of our guides have academic backgrounds, and deliver their highly entertaining tours in perfect English and German. With more than 99+% positive ratings on TripAdvisor, you know that when you book a public or private tour with Original Hamburg Walks you’re going to get only the best possible experience.

Our guides

Anna
Anna
Anna is a Hamburger born and raised! In Germany Hamburg is known as the ‘door to the world,’ and for Anna that’s no different, she’s lived all over the world, but for her home in Hamburg will always be the best! She’s keen to show off her home town and explain the most exciting, most important moments of the ever-changing history of Hamburg.
Beate
Beate
Beate came to Hamburg for love (not just of the city!). Having worked in the industry since 1981 and lead tours across not only Hamburg and Berlin, but Germany, Europe, and the world, Beate joined our team and can now be seen leading people through Hamburg and its history, rain or shine. Beate’s infectious love and respect of history are what make her tours so special. Whether you’re taking our Discover Hamburg tour in English or German, you’re going to learn a lot on your walk through town.
Bob
Bob
Bob, from the port city of Wilmington, North Carolina, USA, came to Germany in 1979 as a young man planning to stay for a couple of years to immerse himself in the German culture and to learn the German language. He has now been here for over 40 years. For much of this time he was a musical director and orchestra conductor for many of the major musical productions in the German-speaking world. Now retired, he can devote his time to his passion: the history of Germany, both social and political; particularly the history of Hamburg and Northern Germany. “It gives me great pleasure to accompany both my German and international guests through the historic heart of Hamburg. My goal is to share with guests my love and passion for this Hamburg and to impart my knowledge so as they can  get the most out of their visit to this incredibly beautiful and fascinating maritime city.”
Eva
Eva
Our ball of energy from Austria, Eva came to Hamburg by chance after training as an actress at the distinguished Vienna Conservatory. After touring Germany, Austria, and the world (Russia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and China!), Eva decided to make the beautiful Hanseatic city of Hamburg her home back in 1997. Still working as an actress, Eva jumped at the chance to join our team in 2018 to share not only her passion for the city’s history, but its cultural development and art scene. That means you’ll see Eva not only on the streets discussing Hamburg’s rich history, but in clubs with musicians, and live on stage as well.

I myself am an avid traveller and through this believe to have gained a real insight into what it is that makes a memorable trip into an unforgettable one; and it is this special something which I try to bring into my tours. I like to use our time together to show you the Hamburg that most visitors never get to see. This, of course, means learning all about Hamburg's rich history and culture but also includes visiting a few secret spots, taking in some breathtaking views and what I particularly love, discussing what it is that makes the Hamburgers tick! Along the way it is always a great pleasure of mine to share one of my great passions with you, being the wonderfully weird German language. Most importantly of all however I also love to allow my enthusiasm for local food and drink spill over into the tour and chat all about Hamburg's unusual cuisine along the way. Hopefully, we will see each other soon to learn all about Hamburg's beautiful city and have a few laughs as well!
Jonny
Jonny
Jonny mostly works with us back in Berlin, but every now and then you’ll see him in his second German home, Hamburg. Jonny came over to Germany from England in 2010 and only expected to stay for 6 months, but one thing lead to another, and now he’s become a German citizen! With a deep love for history, a beer or three, and a silly sense of humour, Jonny loves to get out on the streets to make visitors learn and laugh alike.
